ABOUT THE ARTIST

Melissa Bateman has been practicing art and design for most of her life. She has only recently begun to show her skills as a portrait artist.  This website showcases her first portrait drawings and paintings.    

She pursued a career in textile design after graduating from Pratt Institute, and has continued this work in that field for over twenty years.   

In 2009, after a long hiatus from practicing her own artwork, she returned to study drawing and painting under some of the country's most renowned classical artists.

She was awarded a Certificate of Excellence by the Portrait Society of America for her portrait, "My Mother" in 2012.

Since then she has continued to expand her skills in drawing and painting people as her subjects, as she now considers practicing portraiture to be the most personal and gratifying aspect of being an artist.
